Juggling Work & Family: Sanity-Saving Tips

Let’s face it, being a parent is a full-time job, and when you add in “LIFE”, the daily juggling act can feel overwhelming. The constant pressure to excel at work and care for your family can leave you feeling drained, stressed, and longing for a few extra hours in the day.

Knowing you are not alone can ease the stress, but that doesn’t always cut it! There are ways to navigate the chaos and create a more balanced, fulfilling life for yourself and your family. Here are some sanity-saving tips that help me you manage the work-family juggle:

1. Prioritize with Passion: Did you know that my middle name is ‘Overwhelm’? 😳 I needed to learn to make a list of my top priorities for both work and family so I could focus on the essentials and avoid feeling overwhelmed. Believe me, Remember, prioritizing doesn’t mean neglecting everything else; it simply means choosing what deserves your attention the most at a given time.

2. Time Management Magic: Utilize calendars, planners, and to-do lists to find a routine for both work and family life. Allocate specific time slots for work, family, playdates, and, most importantly, self-care! Do what works for YOU! There is not one magic tool, I am a pen and paper planner with an ongoing Google Calendar, my husband prefers online, my friends is a strictly pen and paper gal!

3. Embrace Delegation: Don’t try to be a superhero, like I did… “I can do everything better and faster” was my motto. Until there was not enough time in the day to do it all… Delegating tasks at home and work is not easy sometimes, but absolutely necessary. Give your kids age appropriate chores at home, involve your partner in responsibilities and decisions (that was the hardest!😳 ) and don’t be shy to ask for help at work!

4. Mornings Matter: Ditch your phone and laptop for the first hour and start your day with a positive and productive routine. This could include a quick workout, meditation, or simply enjoying a coffee or a quiet breakfast. Starting your day off right can set the tone for a calmer and more focused day. (Believe me, tried and tested method! ❤)

5. Embrace Advanced Technology: From online grocery delivery that ditches crowded aisles to meal kits with prepped ingredients, reclaim your weekends. Explore apps delivering from convenience stores and even pharmacies, all while automating bill payments. Compare prices, utilize promotions, plan meals, and choose flexible delivery slots – technology empowers you to free up precious time for what matters most.

6. Power of “No”: Another one that is still hard but I am getting better at it! Learning to politely decline commitments that will overload my schedule, add to my stress levels… It is magical though. Prioritizing what matters most is crucial and saves my sanity. I highly recommend 😉

7. That Precious Unplugged Time: In our hyper-connected and fast paced world, setting boundaries is essential. Schedule periods of “unplugged time” throughout the day for yourself and your family. Disconnect from social media and work emails to focus on quality time together and avoid burnout. Board games, nature walks, charades, music, and family picnics are amazing. The kids might refuse the idea at first, but I promise you at the end they will have more fun than on their devices. Another tried and tested tip😉

8. Celebrate the Small Wins: Life is not always easy, so don’t forget there are no accomplishments and wins too small! Celebrate those moments! Pat yourself on the back for finishing a work project on time or completing a school drop-off after a hectic morning! Recognizing everyday victories will put you in a better overall mood, and you will start looking for all the little positivities in your life!

9. Self-Care is Not a Luxury: Last but not least: Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup. No, really! Schedule time for self-care activities that nourish your mind, body, and spirit. Something that makes YOU happy! Whether it’s a workout, reading a book, spending time in nature, or taking a relaxing bath, carve out time for yourself to recharge and be the best version of yourself! Without YOU being OK, no one around you will be ok. 💕
